Retirement Planning

Deciding when to retire can be a daunting and stressful proposition. SWA’s owner & founder, Harry Moran, believes that proper retirement planning can alleviate much of the stress and maximize the likelihood of achieving a secure and enjoyable retirement. At SWA, one of the most common questions we hear is: “Do I have enough to retire?” We find that many people have never done a detailed analysis to answer that question due to being concerned that they might come up short. Some people also feel that they don’t have enough command over the terminology or the concepts to make informed decisions. Often, they have been relying on educated guesses or simple website calculators to determine the answer. Obviously, both are inadequate and your retirement is far too important to entrust to this kind of approach.

In addition, the pressure to handle one’s financial affairs without professional help can be a source of additional stress. This pressure can lead to avoidance, which makes it that much harder for people to make meaningful progress. Those with the requisite time, expertise, and objectivity can do at least some of this on their own. In practice though, we rarely encounter someone with all of these important attributes. Our gentle and compassionate approach meets you where you are now without dwelling on past mistakes.

At SWA, we work together to set realistic goals and then perform a sophisticated but understandable retirement analysis to make them a reality. We look at the impact of various economic and market scenarios. While we do look at current and projected expenses, we aren’t the spending police. We work together to help you determine what action steps will work best for you, given your lifestyle and goals.

We consider how changes in your personal situation, such as needing long-term care, could impact your plan. With this analysis as the foundation, we then create a detailed, personalized Financial Action Plan which serves as an implementation guide that systematically lays out the necessary steps to ensure that you are on track to enjoy the type of retirement you envision. Our clients consistently report a greater feeling of security and empowerment, even if they sometimes don’t get the answers they’d hoped to. Helping our clients define and achieve their retirement goals is some of the most enjoyable and rewarding work imaginable.
